La Musica 2008: BACK TO THE FUTURE

Bruno Giuranna
In 2008, La Musica enters the second year of its third decade. It is a time to plan for the future by building on the past, a process which may certainly be applied to chamber music. Thus, our theme was born, Back to the Future, in which we will explore how composers reacted to their predecessors and how it affected their growth of musical ideas.

Through the programming of seminal musical thinkers (i.e., Mozart, Beethoven) juxtaposed with more modern composers (Brahms, Elgar, Dvorak, Ravel) and present-day composers (Hyman), La Musica will not only examine the process but present the exciting programs for which it has received universal acclaim.

The concerts will be performed in St. Thomas More Catholic Church , an architectual icon of the famed Sarasota School of Architecture, designed by Carl Abbott. Concerts will be March 31, April 4, April 7, April 10, and April 14. All concerts are at 8:00 P.M. There is ample parking as well as valet parking at the church.
